Tamto Mitts Colorwork Class

Saturday 15 June 2024

Half day class in the morning with Mary Jane Mucklestone.

Class Level: Some experience with stranded colorwork .

$180 including GST and morning tea. Not including yarn.

Description:

This class provides a solid introduction to choosing colors for Fair Isle knitting.

Using Mary Jane Mucklestone's Tamto Mitts pattern, we'll delve into the historical use of color in Fair Isle knitting.

We will analyze how different color combinations can completely change a motif's appearance.

Knitting a quick swatch will illustrate new concepts.

Supplies to Bring:

Yarn: Six or more colors of fingering weight yarn, at least 3 light colors and 3 dark colors; 15-20 yards of each color. More colors will allow for more choice and experimentation. Shetland wool is ideal because of its vast array of colors. Mary Jane encourages you to choose your own colors, but there's no shame in using the colors in the sample. Note, in class, we will be making a swatch, and thus you can just bring enough yarn for that: six or more colors of fingering weight yarn; 20-25 yards of each color.

Lean into the sense of place and buy a 4ply/Fingering Yarn Kit of Tarndwarncoort’s very own non-superwash Polwarth wool. You get to choose your colours during the class with advice from Mary Jane.
